The Contentious Matters Legal Advisor will support the Contentious Matters Leader to serve the internal business by helping manage the current contentious matters workload and prevent new contentious matters from escalating.
The successful candidate’s key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supporting the general counsel with team management and day to day contentious matters portfolio.
- Taking lead on team escalations and queries.
- Leading the monthly reporting obligations, including comprehensive analysis of trends and provision of strategic insights to senior management.
- Overseeing the integrity and strategic utilisation of the contentious matters database, ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and effectiveness as a decision-making tool.
- Designing and presenting internal reports, translating complex data into actionable intelligence and strategic recommendations for stakeholders.
- Establishing and enforcing best practices for document management on SharePoint, ensuring compliance, accessibility, and efficient retrieval of all case files.
- Proactively managing and forecasting critical deadlines across a portfolio of contentious matters, identifying potential conflicts and developing robust mitigation strategies.
- Independently managing a portfolio of complex cases, including all associated communications and stakeholder engagement, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Leading initiatives to identify, design, and implement process improvements and standardization across contentious matters, driving efficiency and best practices.
- Developing and delivering high-impact presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders, translating complex case statistics into strategic insights and recommendations.
- Conducting in-depth, complex legal research to inform strategic decisions and provide expert guidance on intricate legal issues.
- Critically analyzing complex factual matrices, directing evidence gathering efforts, and drafting comprehensive legal memorandums that articulate sophisticated legal arguments and recommendations.
- Providing expert analysis and strategic summaries of significant legal developments, legislative changes, and landmark case law, assessing their impact and advising on necessary adjustments to internal policies.
- Critically reviewing and providing strategic input on complex pleadings, ensuring legal accuracy, strategic alignment, and robust argumentation.
- Drafting and negotiating complex letters of demand, demonstrating advanced legal drafting skills and strategic foresight.
- Providing expert, nuanced advice on complex legal issues, identifying potential risks and proposing proactive solutions.
- Taking full ownership and accountability for the resolution of complex cases from inception to conclusion.
- Mentoring and guiding junior team members in the preparation of internal training sessions on contentious matters, including advanced risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitoring and interpreting significant legal developments across the Middle East and Cyprus, providing strategic briefings and recommendations to the Contentious Matters Team.
- Acting as a primary liaison between the Contentious Matters Team and internal functions, fostering effective collaboration and communication.
- Managing relationships with external counsel, overseeing their work, and ensuring alignment with the Contentious Matters Leader's strategic objectives.
- Collaborating closely with the Contentious Matters Leader to develop, enhance, and implement robust policies and guidelines, ensuring comprehensive compliance with laws and regulations across multiple Middle East jurisdictions.

Qualifications:
· Undergraduate degree in Law from a common law jurisdiction. Additional civil law qualification will be considered an advantage.· At least 6 years’ post admission experience at a reputable law firm, preferably in the UK, US, Australia, or Canada. Additional experience working in a civil law environment will be considered an advantage.
· Excellent organizational and planning skills.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
· Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.
· An ability to build relationships with the relevant stakeholders.
· A keenness to learn about different stakeholder sectors.
