The Contentious Matters Legal Advisor will support the Contentious Matters Leader to serve the internal business by helping manage the current contentious matters workload and prevent new contentious matters from escalating. 

The successful candidate’s key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

·       Assisting with monthly reporting obligations.

·       Maintaining a detailed and updated database of all contentious matters.

·       Preparing the relevant internal reports by extracting the necessary information from the database.

·       Maintaining case files on SharePoint and ensuring that all files are properly organized and up to date.

·       Diarizing deadlines and important dates.

·       Email and case management.

·       Assisting in the streamlining of processes (including drawing up forms and templates for internal circulation).

·       Putting together PowerPoints and running case statistics.

·       Conducting legal research.

·       Analyzing facts, gathering evidence, and preparing legal memorandums.

·       Preparing summary notes on points of law, legislative amendments, and case law.

·       Reviewing pleadings.

·       Preparing letters of demand.

·       Providing general advice on legal issues.

·       Handling A to Z of simple cases.

·       Assisting the Contentious Matters Team in the preparation of internal training sessions on issues surrounding contentious matters (including risk mitigation).

·       Monitoring legal developments across the Middle East and Cyprus and reporting back into the Contentious Matters Team.

·       Acting as a liaison between the Contentious Matters Team and the internal function as required from time to time.

·       Acting as a liaison between the Contentious Matters Leader and external counsel as required from time to time. 

·       Working with the Contentious Matters Leader on developing and enhancing policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with laws and regulations across multiple Middle East jurisdictions.

Qualifications:

·       Undergraduate degree in Law from a common law jurisdiction. Additional civil law qualification will be considered an advantage.

·       At least 8 years’ post admission experience at a reputable law firm, preferably in the UK, US, Australia, or Canada. Additional experience working in a civil law environment will be considered an advantage.

·       Excellent organizational and planning skills.

·       Excellent communication skills.

·       Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

·       Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.

·       An ability to build relationships with the relevant stakeholders.

·       A keenness to learn about different stakeholder sectors.

·       General proactivity in all areas of work.
